How to Use Tea for Simple Self-Care

Finding a way to incorporate tea into daily life can make a big difference in your overall health. My morning cup of tea helps me set the right tone for the rest of the day. I will make a small ritual every morning with tea by saying my intentions for the day as I prepare it and drink it.

Self care has never been more important than in 2020. There’s no doubt that you are experiencing big changes in your life as most of us are. While you may not be able to organize tea parties or attend magickal ceremonies for the next few weeks or months, tea can still stay an important part of your life and become a foundation of your self care routine.


Tea Magick Ritual


Tea is one of the easiest and most subtle ways of doing magick. Making tea magick is as easy as choosing a tea that supports your intentions and drinking it mindfully. I do this every morning. If you want to add an extra oomph to the magickal workings – while waiting for the water to boil, draw a symbol that backs your intentions in the air above the kettle. For example – a rune for love, a sigil for health, even a word or number will work! While the tea is steeping, pray your magical words over it. Stir the tea in a clockwise fashion to move something forward, counter-clockwise to reverse it. Then visualize your intention while drinking.


Psychical and Emotional Self-Care with Tea


Try choosing tea depending on the potential benefits each blend will provide you. We have crafted together a few blends to help your tea be magickal but there are tons of options you can get or even make your own. Us witches like to do a lot of DIY to infuse everything with our intentions so I can't blame you, but if you can't grow your own herbs or plants for tea, you are welcome to browse some and choose your favorites. You can always make any tea your own and make it work for your magick.


For example, if you need an energy boost, Vivacity Elixir could be a great choice. The blend enhances stamina, lessens fatigue, and balances the body to use what energy it has more effectively. We all have our days when we feel exhausted. We are home or at work and can't do much because honestly, our energy meter is drained or we are still tired from a restless night of sleep. A little magickal cup of this elixir and it can be the boost needed to start or finish out the day.


If you are having trouble sleeping and your body feels like it needs a good night's rest, try our Witch's Slumber, infused with herbs that have mild sedative effects towards the central nervous system. I know this one is one of my favorite tisanes. Sometimes my mind races at night and Witch's Slumber helps to wind me down and get a full night's sleep.


If you are having a bit of a creative block, try our Muse Fire tisane which contains adaptogens that allow for more clarity, balance and concentration to arise. Adaptogens enhance your ability to resist stress, anxiety, trauma and fatigue – slowly and gently, without jolts or crashes.


Feeling a bit down emotionally? Tea will help you feel hydrated too and is a healthy alternative to sugary drinks. Having a day job, running this shop (as fun as it is), and finding time to be with my family sometimes feels overwhelming and can be draining so a little pick me up cup of tea can be key to revitalizing my emotions.


Get Into the Habit of Drinking Tea


Drinking tea is one of the best habits you could have for your internal self care. Dedicate 10-30 minutes a day for you and your tea only. Allow yourself not to think about problems or feel any negative emotions. Feelings of anger, hate, distress or any negative emotion were never a part of any tea ceremony in the world. Instead of focusing on your worries, focus on your tea completely. Pay attention to water temperatures, look at the leaves, enjoy the scent and every sip you take. You might even take up scrying as part of your routine. Whatever makes you feel comfortable and happy.


Meditation with Tea


Try incorporating tea meditation into your daily life. Learning how to breathe properly may help relieve anxiety, sharpen your mind and increase vitality. This may prove especially valuable if you have to work from home and find it difficult because of the distractions that you don’t usually encounter in the office.

Love tea? Try learning more about the teas and tisanes you love as well as new ones. The world of tea is full of interesting facts and information. Invest in some tea books or read tea blogs that you find interesting. Not only will you deepen your tea knowledge, you will also get an insight into other cultures and rituals.
